IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTICE: Rx Refill Patient Matching Update

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We strive to automate routine tasks to alleviate the manual administrative effort required to manage patients.  With that goal in mind, we created logic in Centricity Practice Solution (CPS) and Centricity EMR (CEMR) to reduce the number of unmatched patients requiring manual reconciliation when processing electronic refill requests.  We are sending this notice to inform you of an issue recently discovered with the patient matching algorithm used when processing electronic prescription refill requests.  This issue was introduced during the CPS 12.2 and CEMR 9.10 release and all subsequent releases.

If your organization manages multiple patient charts for a single patient across multiple Locations of Care, then this issue may affect your organization.  If your organization does not manage multiple patient charts for a single patient across multiple Locations of Care, this will not affect your organization.

Introducing Hospital Connect: See How You Can Save Providers an Hour per Day

Join our webinar to learn more

October 12, 2017

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

The value of patient care is the single most important factor of success for healthcare organizations transitioning to value-based care. Care coordination across delivery settings is one powerful way for ambulatory practices to increase that value by enhancing care quality, reducing cost of care, and improving patient satisfaction.

However, care coordination has been challenging for the healthcare system. For ambulatory practices, current referral and information flow processes can waste provider and staff time and lack flexibility. Hospitals face the same challenges and also suffer from limited or no access to ambulatory records or detailed care plans, especially after-hours.

As a leader in standards-based interoperability, GE Healthcare has demonstrated that seamless clinical data integration among different providers and healthcare organizations can facilitate care coordination, thereby helping to increase the value of care delivered.

That’s why we are pleased to introduce Hospital Connect. This new solution, a part of Project Northstar, provides real-time access to clinical data from thousands of acute and ambulatory healthcare organizations via a single interface to the cloud. In addition, by integrating selected data into providers’ native workflow, this solution can save an hour per provider per day1 in chart reviews.

Hospital Connect is one of the first products in our new Centricity Healthcare Connections family that is intended to simplify your ability to communicate and collaborate with the greater healthcare community.

Join us for a webinar to learn more.

Patient intake is a complex process with many moving parts requiring multiple different staff members from within your organization. From assisting patients in the waiting room to verifying insurance eligibility, the broad range of time-consuming tasks involved can seem overwhelming. Automating the intake process streamlines those tasks, making it far easier for healthcare organizations to improve operations and enhance the patient experience.

On Thursday, October 5 at 1 p.m. EST, we invite you to join us for an informative webinar that will cover the Phreesia integration with Centricity Practice Solution, as well as the business needs that the Phreesia platform fulfills.

During this session, we will be joined by a fellow Centricity client who will share why their practice chose to implement a patient intake management solution, the business needs they were looking to address, and how automating the front office has positively impacted their patients and staff.
In this webinar we will discuss:

  • The Phreesia Workflow
  • Key features of the Phreesia Dashboard
  • Phreesia’s integration with GE Centricity Practice Solution and how it can help maximize your investment

GE Healthcare Announces Project Northstar

Article Featured on histalk2

Jon ZimmermanGE Healthcare announced this morning at its Centricity Live 2016 user conference in Phoenix, AZ its next-generation IT solution for ambulatory care delivery. I spoke with GE Healthcare IT VP/GM Jon Zimmerman of the company’s value-based care solutions team ahead of the announcement.

Describe Project Northstar that is being announced.

Project Northstar is GE Healthcare’s next-generation IT solution for ambulatory care delivery to fundamentally help practices thrive in the world of value-based care. We strongly believe that the move to value-based care is on. It’s not going to be a light switch. It will be a transition over time.

We also see that the tools and services that have been built around population health have not been integrated with care delivery from a community perspective. It’s certainly not completely integrated with revenue cycle management with both value and volume in mind. Payers are changing, too, so there’s new payer connectivity required.

We’re taking a point of view from a physician’s workflow and driving population health integrated with care delivery, integrated with revenue-cycle management both value and volume, with new forms of payer connectivity to take waste out of the system. Our drive is to increase quality, efficiency, and financial performance for customers.

Is this a standalone product or is it just for Centricity users? Who is the target customer?

The audience starts with GE Centricity Practice Solutions / GE Centricity EMR first, but we built it with open principles. We believe that some of the advanced ACOs may want to take some of the capabilities that we’re offering and also make them useful and integrated on top of other EMRs.

Is it an upgrade or a separate product that Centricity customers will buy?

Look at it as an extension from what people have today with a migration path to roll it over Centricity over the next few years. We believe that a big-bang replacement would be a very bad and disruptive idea. Many of our customers have given us great clues on how to do a safe, smart migration transition. It’s not a big bang, turn that off, turn that on.

What providers and partners did you work with?

We worked with Westmed Practice Partners in Westchester, NY starting almost two years ago. One of the things that was highly attractive about working with Westmed is that they were scoring very high in their quality measures. Their efficiency measures and their ability to collect revenue from their fee- and value-based contracts were also very good. Their leadership knew what they were doing. They knew how they did it.

They were pushing our products up to and beyond their capabilities in order to make that happen. When I thought about how we were going to get to that next generation and who we could work with, I thought it would be good to start with somebody who was so very skilled and who knew us so well. That was Westmed Practice Partners, specifically Dr. Simeon Schwartz, the chairman and CEO.

Was the product built from scratch?

It is not being built from scratch, nor is it being acquired. This was a big discussion that Simeon and I had in the beginning. We are building certain components. We’re also assembling capabilities from different technology providers across the industry.

I don’t think anybody is going to be able to have the time to just go build from scratch, but taking a modern, 21st-century approach is going to be key. We have the luxury of leveraging is a lot of the investments that GE is making with Health Cloud, so this is an extension of what GE is doing as well.

It seems that you’re picturing an ecosystem with components provided by partners. How will that look?

First and foremost, we took a tabula rasa approach, meaning a blank slate. Once we got comfortable with one another in Westmed – and other practices have also helped us design this — one of the keys was, how do you guys work? What do you do all day? We went even to the depths of, with appropriate permissions, observing their delivery of care.

We broke it down with a number of usability experts. GE Corporate, GE Digital has been investing in usability expertise and usability engineers. We leveraged those to break down the work processes of a pretty complex multi-specialty practice. We also focused strongly on, as you would imagine, that primary care is the quarterback, and that user experience is a big deal.

On the business side, we said, how does that work? How can we make a system provide more value for the providers? We broke the providers’ work into basically four areas.

Number one is that I need to understand. When I’m going to see a patient, I need to know a lot about them. How should a system gather that information for me?

Once it gathers that information, I need to know what I’m supposed to do. I need to know how to work. Underneath that is a rules engine that we’ve selected. The rules will be based on what the clinicians want to do. We’ll get rules from specialty societies or individual practices and combinations thereof. They will create a rules-driven system that’s based on a modern user experience with workflow guidance to then get the providers to do what the providers know that they need to do. Our approach here will remove clicks, but also provide consistency through the guidance of the decision-makers for that practice.

The next piece of work is that I need to review and sign. Rules comes in and say, did I do all the things that I’m supposed to do that will be impactful for my volume-driven revenue cycle? Did I document what’s required for my quality reporting?

Last but certainly not least, there’s follow-up care coordination and care management that creates a continuous loop in the system versus a set of independent acts.

For the user experience, we’re using the same technology that Google uses. That’s called AngularJS. For the rules engine, we’ve purchased a commercial rules engine and we’ve put that into our stack. To fill the rules engine, we’re working with a number of practices, with Dr. Schwartz being the first. We have another one signed up specifically for cardiology. We have a workflow engine. Our cloud provider is technologies from GE Health Cloud and supplemented by some things we’ve been doing with Microsoft and Azure over the last few years.

You mentioned reduced clicks and the user experience. You’re not replacing the UI of Centricity, correct?

We had a lot of robust dialogue with our customers on this. The first and greatest impact that we can have is the process of creating intelligent orders — orders that take the context of the patient, the context of the payer, and the context of evidence-based practice and build them into one.

In our initial implementation, users will be in Centricity up to the point where it’s time to create an order. Then the new system takes over seamlessly. It pulls all the information that customers are used to in Centricity. Now you’re into the cloud experience, the next-generation system. Once you complete that set of tasks, we bring you back into the world that you live in.

Physicians spend an awful lot of their time, as they should, in workflows for ordering and diagnosing. That’s why we did that. The more that we talk with customers, they said, “You made absolutely the right choice.”

How are you using payer information?

I was one of the lucky people who got to work as a pioneer to invent what we know today as the EDI systems of the US for healthcare starting back in the late 1980s. I have a long-term relationship with working between payers and providers. Just before I came to GE, I was lucky enough to work with a great company called Availity, a provider / payer network owned by 21 Blue Crosses and Humana. I got the opportunity to understand a lot of the payer processes and what’s missing in the bridge between payers and providers that creates an awful lot of wasted work.

GE was an inaugural investor in the AHIP Innovation Laboratory. AHIP, the payers’ professional association, knew that they had to create more innovation because of the trends that we see. We are inaugural investors.

We are reverse engineering the exchanges of information between payers and providers that goes through phone calls, faxes, physical mail, and portals and embedding that into our current and next-generation systems. A very important point: this is not going to have to wait for a next generation. We’re doing that now.

Let me give you a couple of examples. In Medicare Advantage, being able to prove as a payer that you are closing gaps in care and that patients are getting good care requires that if the payers see that things are not happening at differential analysis, then we can take a gap in care directly from a payers’ system. Some are pushing them out through sidecars and eligibility transactions. We put that information into the providers’ workflow so the know what’s necessary to be done. Then the providers can use their normal processes to get the work done and deliver the care.

Then payers are going to want it reported back. They’ll take it through a claim, or some are asking for CCDAs to be sent to them. We also are building the capabilities to deliver the clinical care documents, then the summaries with details, back to the payers so they can ingest them into their various systems, not their claim systems.

Another example is the need for hierarchical condition categories for risk adjustment. We can construct the appropriate data sets that payers are constantly calling the providers for and we can deliver it to them electronically. We know this because we work directly with payers and providers in their distinct workflows to be able to build these new bridges, to do it as electronically as possible within the workflows to reduce burden, reduce waste, and deliver on the Triple Aim.

What’s the timeline for delivering the product?

The first wave is going to come out in Q1 ’17. We’re working with our user groups and providers directly. There’s that preparatory. Then the orders module will come out first, followed by more enhancements that we’re going to be delivering in the RCM, followed by more and more clinical documentation and a collaboration. We’re also simultaneously building a lot more interoperability for collaboration among providers.

Everything that we’re doing from a workflow and technology perspective is being supported by a cloud-based interoperability collaboration hub and supported by analytics that are integrated as well, because there’s going to be a lot of adjustments over time.

We see this complete picture rolling out over the next three years. Based on demand and based on the number of ecosystem partners that we see, we hope to be able to accelerate that, but we want to first and foremost do no harm and create a lot of value as people have to change their business models during this very dynamic time, like none other that we’ve seen before in this industry.

We would like to direct your attention to a scenario which may increase or change drug interaction override popup frequency after the Service Pack (SP) 11 upgrade. Each user may be affected differently based on their enterprise and user preferences and the patients’ active medications. Please read this communication from Chad for recommended steps to reduce the drug interaction override popups.

Identical ICD9 & ICD10 codes and Resolution for MIK

Message from GE Healthcare:

On July 15th we informed you about a list of duplicate diagnosis codes that has been posted to the CMS website. This small number of diagnosis codes within the ICD-10 code set have the same letter and number combination as an existing ICD-9 code but correspond to a different description. Under certain circumstances, the Centricity Practice Solution Practice Management module is unable to determine whether the ICD-9 or ICD-10 description is appropriate without additional information. Please review our communication from July 15th for further details.

As the transition date for ICD-10 approaches, we have important updates to share regarding resolutions to this issue and actions you should take to begin using these ICD-10 codes. Please read this communication from Peter Kinhan for details.

CHUG Users your input is needed! – TIME EXTENDED

Message from GE Healthcare:

Dear Centricity Users,
Beginning in 2015, each quarter the GE Ambulatory Practice Solutions Engineering Team reserves two days to work on a selected set of small enhancements that will delight customers and improve customers’ experience with the Centricity products. These reserved days are called Delighter Days and the enhancements are referred to as Customer Delighters.

The CHUG Board participated in the inaugural Delighter Days in April, with some members visiting GE sites in Hillsboro, OR and Plano, TX to work directly with Product and Engineering teams.

The CHUG Board has now partnered with GE on the Delighter Days program and we want YOU to determine which Customer Delighters will be completed on the next Delighter Days. The Delighter Candidates in this survey were sourced from the GE Services, Sales, Installation, Engineering, Product Management and Account Development teams based on repeated requests they hear from customers.

Please complete this survey and rate the candidates based on how important/valuable they are to your organization. The candidates rated as most important to the greatest number of organizations will have priority on the next Delighter Days in July. Remember, Delighters are small enhancements that are completed and tested in two days or less.

DON’T DELAY the survey closes at MIDNIGHT ON JULY 10TH!

ICD-10 Webinars – Recent & Upcoming

Message from GE Healthcare:

Last week, we kicked off our new ICD-10 webinar series. Due to overwhelming demand for these webinars, we scheduled yesterdays and all future sessions for this series in a higher-capacity platform. We apoligize for any inconvenience attendees may have experienced. All previous sessions were recorded and are being posted to the new ICD-10 communities section of the Service Portal. We encourage anyone who was unable to attend live to watch these recordings at their convenience and post questions to the portal. The same experts who gave the sessions will monitor and respond to your questions there.

The demand for this series is understandable – the transition to ICD-10 has the potential to decrease your team’s productivity and disrupt cash flows.

Our team has assembled a comprehensive ecosystem of offerings to help you strengthen financial performance to offset the impact of the ICD-10 transition on your practice. We strongly encourage you to join the remaining webinars for this week. Read our communication to learn more.

Message from GE Healthcare:

As we mentioned in our prior communication, GE Healthcare expects the ICD-10 transition deadline to remain October 1, 2015, and there is much that practices need to do to prepare. Our teams have designed a thorough program to help you make a smooth transition during this period of change. GE Healthcare is pleased to announce the launch of a new collaboration site for ICD-10 on the Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Service Portal and share the registration links for additional upcoming webinars. Message from the CHUG Board

CHUG UPDATE

Good Day CHUG Community,
The CHUG Board hopes all of you enjoyed CHUG at Centricity Live. If you missed it, we encourage you to join us for our next conference this October in New York City.

As I start to settle back into my routine, I think back and am struck by how much we have collectively accomplished and how far we have to go. The CHUG Board spent a great deal of time discussing how to ensure we are properly informing our membership about everything that we do on your behalf. Transparency is a big part of Advocacy because it allows us to build trust in one another. Our goal over the months leading up to our conference in NYC will be to send out monthly updates from the CHUG Board.

On Friday May 1st, the second day of the CHUG at Centricity LIVE conference, the CHUG Board was able to sit down with Mr. Jan De Witte and members of his leadership team. We spoke frankly, openly, and honestly about the struggles all of our members have encountered over the past year. We did note, although there have been struggles, recently it seems as if the corner is being turned and things are starting to get better. Mr. De Witte acknowledged there is still much work to be done to build back up the trust, but gave a firm commitment to stay involved in the process. He further committed to working on a messaging and communication process that will allow GE to become much more transparent benefitting all of their customers.

The CHUG Board looks forward to working with Mr. De Witte’s team to implement this plan in the coming months.

Another important meeting at CHUG centered on our discussions with SureScripts. As many of you may already know, Surescripts has spun out their Care Coordination solution under the brand of Kryptiq. The Patient Portal, Document Management, and ePrescribing remain under the name of Surescripts Enterprise Solutions. Mr. Paul Uhrig, EVP of the SureScripts Enterprise Services division, has assured us of a similar transparent communication and messaging path. We hope to implement this in the coming months.

If you were unable to attend the conference or missed the opening session, I spoke about “CHUG being what you make it”. I encouraged everyone to find that one thing you can take back to your office or clinic or hospital- one innovation, workflow change, new product or idea that will make the all the difference to you or your physicians, nurses, biller, or front desk staff. Hopefully you were able to find and accomplish your one thing, if not, there is still time. If you have not already done so, please send us your one thing to myonething@centricityusers.com or #mychugonething.

All of this is just the beginning, 2015 is about Advocacy and we need your help. Sign up for a committee and volunteer to be part of this vibrant community, we need you. If at any time you would like to discuss something with us or have a question, email the CHUG Board at chugboard@centricityusers.com. Thank you for your time and attention, I look forward to seeing all of you in New York City on October 1-3, 2015 for the Fall CHUG Conference.

Respectfully,

The CHUG Board of Directors

Upgrade Now for ICD-10 Readiness

Notice From GE Healthcare:

GE Healthcare expects the ICD-10 transition deadline to remain October 1, 2015, and there is much that practices need to do to prepare for this change.

You should begin coding in ICD-10 at least two to three months prior to the deadline to leave ample time to audit your staff’s accuracy and reduce the risk of cash flow disruptions. Product Issue affecting PQRS & MU: CQMs CMS 68 & CMS 147

Message from GE Healthcare:
Dear Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We are writing to advise you of an important issue pertaining to PQRS and Meaningful Use reporting with Clinical Quality Reporting (CQR). We have learned that results for Clinical Quality Measure (CQMs) CMS 68 and CMS 147 may not be calculated appropriately for your practice. This communication describes the nature of the problem, what we have done to resolve it, and actions we recommend to ensure the appropriateness of your PQRS and/or Meaningful Use reporting using CQR results.

In summary, we recommend four scenarios for action.
* For those who plan to use or have already used CQR for PQRS and for those who plan to use CQR for Meaningful Use, we recommend the actions described below.
* For those who have already used CQR for Meaingful Use for Medicare, NO ACTION is required.
* For those who have already used Crystal Reports or plan to use Crystal Reports (or another reporting mechanism) to attest for Meaningful Use, NO ACTION is required.
* For those who have already used CQR for Meaningful Use for Medicaid, we recommend that you contact your state for guidance.

GE Healthcare
540 W Northwest Highway
Barrington, IL
60010-3076

Dear Mr. De Witte,

This coming April the CHUG Board will be traveling to Orlando, FL to participate in the first ever CHUG @ Centricity Live. We would like to take this opportunity to have an open and honest dialogue with you and some of your leaders about the state of the product, interactions with the GE team, and commitment for the future. Thus, the CHUG Board respectfully requests a meeting with yourself, Jon Zimmerman, Peter Kinhan, Clarissa Beyah-Talyor, David Hale and Evren Eryurek.

As you may recall, two years ago, the CHUG Board met with you in Las Vegas, NV and expressed concerns about the direction of the product. In the past two years, some of these concerns have materialized. And while there have been many efforts by the GE team to mitigate these issues, we remain in an urgent situation that has placed us all in jeopardy. This situation includes particular challenges related to interactions between CHUG and GE, severe product quality issues, and overall problems with customer service and support.

It is our sincere hope, that as a result of this meeting, you will have a candid picture of the product issues we face, the impact of those issues on your customers, and the needs we have to continue repairing the fragile relationship between GE, the CHUG Board, and the thousands of customers we represent.

Thank you for your time and consideration in addressing this matter, we look forward to your prompt response.

Respectfully,
Etan M. Walls, CISSP

GE Healthcare IT

Message from the CHUG Board

Good Day CHUG Community,

This past weekend the CHUG Board of Directors met with members of the GE Healthcare IT Senior Leadership team at our quarterly board meeting. We worked collectively and collaboratively with the GE team to advocate on your behalf by voicing your concerns regarding Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR.

The conversation centered on the following themes:

• System Integrity – Outages of CQR, etc
• Regulatory Compliance – PQRS, MU, moving targets
• Urgency to Fix Long Standing Items
• Improving Communication Content & Frequency
• Engaging Users in the Product Development Process

The following items were important to note:

• GE Senior Leadership continues to be devoted to hearing and understanding challenges surrounding CPS and CEMR.
• GE has recently restructured its Engineering Teams. System integrity and producing quality releases are vitally important to this new team.
• Regulatory compliance has become a moving target, and GE is working with key regulatory entities to ensure their customers have the most up-to-date information as quickly as possible.

As a result, the following action items have been created:

• On February 11th, 2015 the CHUG Board sent a letter to Mr. Jan De Witte, President and CEO of GE Healthcare IT, requesting a meeting to discuss and advocate for the needs of the users (request and response attached). We look forward to meeting with Mr. De Witte and members of his leadership team at CHUG @ Centricity Live.
• Based upon your feedback, the CHUG Board has developed a list of 15 items that have been long standing issues. In March, we hope to communicate the full list to you, including resolution dates promised by GEHCIT.
• The CHUG Board will continue to work closely with GEHCIT to deliver needed information in a timely way
• As a community, CHUG will start to become increasingly active in lobbying the US government for regulatory relief. Please keep an eye out for further communications.

These are all steps in the right direction as we continue to advocate on the behalf of users. Please continue to reach out to the CHUG Board to have your voice heard. Get involved in one of our many committees, there is so much good we can do together.

On a personal note, as the new President of the CHUG Board of Directors, I hope we are able to continue this initial momentum into concrete improvements for all GE Centricity users. With open, honest, transparent, and collaborative communication from all stakeholders, I believe we will be able to realize amazing improvements and innovations.

Thank you for your time and attention, I look forward to seeing all of you in Orlando, FL at CHUG at Centricity Live and in New York City on October 1st-3rd, 2015 for the Fall CHUG.

Respectfully,
Etan M. Walls, CISSP
President, Centricity Healthcare User Group Board of Directors

Change to PQRS Insurance Filter

Notice from GE Healthcare:

Dear Quality Submission Service Participant:

We would like to make you aware of an issue that some customers have experienced with the filters for PQRS measure selection. We have defined the root cause and deployed a solution in the cloud Clinical Quality Reporting (CQR) system. Below we’ve provided important updates on the issue, what we have done to resolve it, the actions that certain customers will need to take if they are experiencing the issue, and other useful tips to prepare for authorization….read the rest of the communication here.

Upcoming Change to PQRS Insurance Filter

Notice from GE Healthcare:

Dear Quality Submission Service Participant:

We want to share important information about the PQRS program.

Within the last few days, GE Healthcare learned that some customers experienced issues with the insurance filters for PQRS measure selection.  We’ve addressed the issue and will deploy a solution to this issue tonight (Thursday, February 12) in the cloud Clinical Quality Reporting (CQR) system.

As a result, we are extending the authorization deadline to February 18th….Read the rest of the communication here.

PQRS UPDATE: Simplified workflow for 2014

Notice from GE Healthcare:

Customers who have not yet finished applying SOP codes may now use the following workflow.
Part 1: Please review the following required and optional steps

(a) Assign initial SOP codes:
1. Required:  Apply Medicare FFS SOP code.
2. Optional:  Apply any other non-Medicare SOP codes.
Remember, if you have already applied any other Medicare codes (including “Medicare Non-managed Care other” code), we recommend you map those to “Unavailable/Unknown” before proceeding.

(b) Send data to CQR (via new script to reset subscription) and Calculate.
(c) Filter by Insurance: Medicare.
(d) Select measures to meet the CMS Medicare FFS reporting guidance.
(See instructions in Measure Selection & Provider Authorization webinar slides and recording.)

Part 2: Please review the following required and optional steps.
a) Optional: Assign remaining SOP codes:
1. Apply remaining Medicare SOP codes.
2. If in Part 1(a) you had mapped non-FFS Medicare plans to “Unavailable/Unknown”, you may re-map those to the appropriate non-FFS Medicare code before proceeding.
b) If you performed Part 2(a), send data to CQR (via script to reset subscription) and Recalculate.
a) Required: Authorize (See instructions in Measure Selection & Provider Authorization webinar slides and recording.)

BREAKING NEWS: CMS relaxes PQRS 2014 requirement to apply all SOP codes

Notice from GE Healthcare:

Dear Quality Submission Service Participant:

We have some important news about the PQRS 2014 SOP code program requirements that we believe will provide significant relief for customers who are still in the process of applying SOP codes. This news includes updated guidance from CMS in addition to the creation of a new CQM script.

RELAXED SOP CODE REQUIRMENTS FOR 2014

GE Healthcare has been working with CMS over the last months to clarify the application of SOP codes for health plans. In our recent communications with you (webinars on 1/22 & 2/3; email on 2/4), we outlined GE’s interpretation of the PQRS 2014 requirements. CMS confirmed our interpretation but also acknowledged that there has been confusion among vendors in the use of the detailed SOP codes for PQRS submissions.

Yesterday, CMS stated an important change to the PQRS guidelines that adds customer flexibility:

• It is now acceptable, at your discretion, to ONLY apply SOP codes to the Medicare FFS (Part B) plans for PQRS 2014 reporting and to categorize the remaining health plans in a single broad health plan “Category D – Other.”
• Our customers may leave the non-Medicare FFS plans uncoded and these will be mapped by CQR to broad health plan “Category D – Other” without any intervention on your part.
• Please see the attached document for details on applying this guidance.
Please note: Our guidance to report on at least 9 measures across 3 domains that each represent a significant Medicare FFS initial patient population remains unchanged.

CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE ALREADY FULLY COMPLETED THEIR SOP CODE MAPPINGS:

CMS advised us to inform our customers that the requirement to apply SOP codes for all payers will be reinstated for PQRS submissions for the 2015 reporting year. Therefore, if you have already fully completed your SOP code mappings, according to our previously issued workflow for the 2014 program year, rest assured that you do not need to un-map any previously assigned SOP codes with this CMS clarification. You are well positioned for the 2015 program year when the requirement goes into effect.

New “Reset CQM Subscription” Script

In addition to the welcome news from CMS, we are pleased to announce the availability of the “Reset CQM Subscription” script, as discussed on our February 3rd. CPS and CEMR customers will be able to download the script from the service portal once it is posted later today. After applying SOP codes in Part 1 (a), you must reset the Clinical Quality Measures subscription to transmit the data to CQR, and this new script automates that subscription reset process.

We welcome yesterday’s response from CMS and hope this news helps you more easily meet the requirement to authorize your providers by February 13, 2015. If you have any questions, please contact Centricity Support at 888-436-8491 (Option 2, Option 3).  If you have specific questions on the SOP rules, you can also contact the Sage Growth Partners SOP Hotline at 667-217-3650. For expedited service, please request that the support representative record “PQRS” at the beginning of the description of the support ticket.

QSS Deadline for PQRS: Step 6 Due February 7th

Notice from GE Healthcare:

January 27, 2015

Dear Quality Submission Service Participant:

We appreciate your continued attention to necessary preparations for GE Healthcare’s Quality Submission Service (QSS) program for PQRS 2014. Please take a moment to review the following details about important final steps and reference the insightful materials indicated below. We understand that it will take more time to complete the remaining tasks in preparation for provider authorization. As such, we have extended the Step 6 deadline to February 7th. Please continue to expedite your preparations. We are eager to support you as you seek to participate in the PQRS program and your adherence to these timelines will enable us to do so.

Step 6 – MUST BE COMPLETED BY FEBRUARY 7TH

Complete Upgrade, Update Insurance and Authorize

  • Complete upgrade to Centricity Practice Solution (CPS) 12.0.7 or Centricity EMR (CEMR) 9.8.7 or higher. (For instructions review pp. 10-23 of the CPS release notes or pp. 10-12 of the CEMR release notes which were updated on January 26).
  • Update insurance information (Review recently-updated slides in conjunction with previously-recorded webinar for instructions). PLEASE NOTE: Information in updated slides supersedes information in recording. CMS requires data for all payers as part of the submission. In order to ensure you meet the requirements to report on Medicare FFS data, we recommend you apply Source of Payment codes in a 2-part process: PART 1: Apply Medicare FFS and non-Medicare SOP codes PRIOR to measure selection. PART 2: Apply remaining Medicare SOP codes AFTER measure selection BUT BEFORE authorization. Instructions for Transmitting Source of Payment Data to Clinical Quality Reporting (CQR) before and after Part 2 are now available.
  • Authorize submission of provider measures in CQR (Watch recorded webinar and review slides for instructions).

As a part of step 6, regardless of any prior agreements with or communications to GE Healthcare on QSS, you MUST complete provider authorization in order for GE Healthcare to submit the authorized provider’s data to CMS for PQRS 2014.

  • NOTE: Complete the upgrade and update insurance information as early as possible; measure selection and provider authorization cannot be completed until these steps are performed. QSS Participants are solely responsible for the providers selected for authorization and quality measures chosen for submission to quality reporting programs offered by GE Healthcare.

If you have any questions, please contact Centricity Support at 888-436-8491 (option 2, option 3). For expedited service, please request that the support representative record “PQRS” at the beginning of the description of the support ticket.

Thank you, GE Healthcare

Patient Education Transition of Service

Dear Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR customers:

We want to make you aware of an important change to the patient education material we support. As a reminder, the embedded ExitCare handouts we have historically supplied do NOT support your providers for Meaningful Use (MU) 2014. As a result, GE Healthcare has partnered with Truven to provide CareNotes patient education materials to all current Centricity Practice Solution (CPS) and Centricity EMR (CEMR) customers at no additional charge. Theses materials offer numerous benefits:

  • Over 8,400 education documents, covering problems, medications, and allergies.
  • Regular upgrades, maintenance, and support.
  • All documents available in English and Spanish and some in significantly more languages.
  • Support for MU Stage 2 Core Measure 13 (Patient-Specific Education) when accessed via the InfoButton from CPS 12 and CEMR 9.8.

For an additional cost you may also subscribe to provider referential information that supports MU Stage 2 Core Measure 6 (Clinical Decision Support) when accessed via the InfoButton.

  • If you have upgraded to CPS 12 or CEMR 9.8: Follow the instructions in the InfoButton Statement and Survey letter sent in April to configure your system for access to patient education via the InfoButton.
  • If you have NOT upgraded to CPS 12 or CEMR 9.8 – OR if you also want online access:You can still access the Truven patient education. Follow these Instructions for Online Access to Truven Patient Education to add a shortcut to your desktop. PLEASE NOTE: Online access will NOT count toward MU 2014.

To make this transition even easier, we will walk you through these instructions step by step in the following informational webinar.

Activating and Accessing Truven CareNotes Patient Education DATE: December 5, 2014 TIME: 10:30-11:00AM PST (1:30-2:00PM EST)

Should you wish to continue using ExitCare patient education after the embedded handouts expire, you may contract with Elsevier directly via email or by phone at 800-694-6669 ext 1, for other access options, such as online access, for an additional fee. PLEASE NOTE: Online access will NOT count toward MU 2014.

We expect the Truven CareNotes patient education content to satisfy a broader range of your patient education needs and more easily keep your educational materials current. If you have any questions about this transition, contact Centricity Suport Services at 1-888-436-8491.

Sincerely,

Peter Kinhan, Vice President & General Manger, Ambulatory Practice Solutions, GE Healthcare IT

CLINICAL VISIT SUMMARY – Product Information Notice

Message from GE Healthcare:

December 19, 2014

Dear Centricity Customer,

We would like to make you aware of potentially unexpected behavior when attaching a clinical visit summary to a patient’s chart that, if not immediately addressed as instructed below, has the potential in limited cases to inadvertently lead to health information from one patient being available to another patient. Users of Centricity Practice Solution 12.0.x or Centricity EMR 9.8.x should follow the instructions in this letter to determine if you have experienced this issue in the past. We recommend that you upgrade to Service Pack 7 to ensure you avoid the situation in the future.

Clinical Visit Summary Appending Incorrectly SPR 60572: In certain rare circumstances, a clinical visit summary (CVS) generated from within one patient’s open chart will append to another, previously-closed patient chart. This CVS could then be provided to the other patient, whether manually or automatically via secure message.

Recommended Actions We have posted to the service portal a script that can identify the patients’ charts at risk of containing an incorrectly appended CVS. We recommended that you follow the steps in the Release Notes to run the detection script. The Release Notes can be downloaded from the Access Documentation section of the CPS Service Portal or the CEMR Service Portal. We recommend that you examine any at-risk charts identified by the script for incorrectly appended summaries. If any are found, we sugges you

  1. change the incorrect CVS to Filed in Error AND
  2. retract any secure messages that may have delivered the summaries.

Please note: only some of the charts identified by the script will contain an incorrectly appended summary. You will need to run the detection script frequently and manually remediate any issues until you upgrade to a version where the situation is corrected. A fix is available for those on Service Pack 6, and the situation is corrected in Service Pack 7.

Contact Information If you have experienced this issue or have questions, please contact Centricity Support by calling 1-888-436-8491.

Maintaining a high level of quality is our highest priority. If you have any questions, please contact us immediately per the contact information above.

Sincerely,

Peter Kinhan, Vice President and General Manager, Ambulatory Practice Solutions GE Healthcare IT
